For this project, Zeit Online collected roughly 45,000 UK newspaper front pages and analyzed their content. 2,393 cover images were classified to contain news related to Brexit. The idea of this visualization was to tell the story of what led to Brexit from a media perspective.
The interactive article consists of two parts: A guided story that highlights the main topics that were discussed before Brexit and an exploration mode that lets you zoom in and explore all the covers on your own.

Both parts of the application were developed using the open-source library OpenSeaDragon. That library helped us to turn the giant stitched image of newspaper covers into a zoomable image, optimized for the web.
